Back in Tampa from Atlanta - Just in time to be faced with Ivan. I am more scared of this one because it has a scarier name. Ivan. Tell me...If you were dating some guy's girlfriend, would you be more scared if his name was Frances or Ivan? Me too. So I sit here in Limbo. Will I be staying here to sit out the hurricane? Will I have to drive through a 400 mile parking lot again? Will my company give me enough lead time to make it possible to actually get a plane ticket? All I know is it's coming right for us, and all of the cool places in Tampa are closed right now because of a little hurricane that tore up their power. Feh. Permalink to this post. |

The 6 hour drive took 11. I was scared to urinate for fear of the ever increasing traffic. One manager who was 5 minutes behind me in the caravan stopped for 30 minutes to grab a sandwich. He got to Atlanta 4 hours after me. So the strangest thing...DragonCon is going on in Atlanta this weekend. A bunch of my French Quarter friends are in Atlanta because, like me, they are amazing geeks. So I went and bought a pass to DragonCon and much fun was had. Many of the girls that attend these events are heinous. Only about 1 in 50 of these girls are attractive. The thing is, this is probably the biggest con of its kind, so the result is that there are hundreds of good looking girls walking around dressed like Boba Fett, a Storm Trooper, or She-Hulk. This hotel was huge. It was hollow. Standing up on the 22nd floor you can look over the internal balcony and see the entire inside of the structure. Everything is symmetrical so the effect is quite vertigo inducing. Or maybe it was the Long Island Iced Tea. All I know is that the storm trooper just kept getting hotter. Permalink to this post. |

I am in Tampa, Florida providing computer support for insurance adjusters working on Hurricane Charley. I wrote the software they use to bill. Anyway, those of you not living under a rock probably know that there is a category 4 hurricane called Frances brewing. And it's coming right for us. Nothing seems real here. We are working on insurance claims for people whose homes very well may be destroyed by this time next week. My company may be flying me out of here tonight. If so I have to abandon my car because I drove here. If any of you out there are insurance adjusters, or can spell adjuster, you may want to contact me. There is going to be a SEVERE shortage of insurance adjusters out here and it will be a very good opportunity for intelligent computer savvy people to make some ducats. Looks like I may have a day off for the first time in over two weeks. Permalink to this post. |

 So, for those of you who missed my last Rock excursion, the unstoppable force known as the Mighty Y-T is playing a show tonight at Lounge Lizards. Tonight being Sunday August 8th at 10 PM.
