2003-02-23: Vacation, Baby
You may have wondered why my site was stagnant lately. Well, I've been hella busy. I took a week off from work, and so the week prior to this vacation I had to do a ton of work. And a large chunk of my vacation was spent snowboarding at Lake Tahoe, and I'll be damned if I'm going to pull out my laptop in the middle of a ski resort.

I spent half of my vacation in San Francisco and the other half snowboarding in Lake Tahoe. They both ruled. The first day of snowboarding I fell on my ass so many times that whenever I sneezed my ass hurt. Not just the cheeks, but the actual sphincter muscle. I know that's pretty gross.

But the second day I could actually do some tricky stuff. I graduated from the baby green slopes onto the blue slopes. It was scary, but I pulled it off without doing too much more damage to my booty.

San Francisco was also pretty damn cool. I was there during the week, and every night there was cool stuff going on. I went to a techno dance club founded by one of the original Mozilla developers. There were computers inside pillars all over the place, and it was extremely cool to see all of the club people effortlessly using Linux and Mozilla to check their email and IM etc.

Final assessment of San Francisco: Like a wealthier, cleaner New Orleans. But the bars close at 2 A.M. so we've got that one on them.

2003-02-13: The Duke of Natchez
Hail and well met, reader! Once again I find myself in Natchez. Previously I was the king, but I think I may have been demoted. Three hours of driving through a blanket of rain. Three hours of sitting in my car. Three hours of munching on spicy peanuts and Good N Plenty. Three hours of drinking Diet Coke, only to counter it at the end with a Nestle White Crunch. I could have resisted any normal bar, but the combination of white chocolate and crunchies was more than I could stand.

My hotel room is slightly less swanky this time. Although it does have a whirlpool hot tub. For a brief panicked moment I thought there was no television, but it turns out that it was obscured by the bathroom door. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force on a Sunday night.

There is no Internet connection in my room. So I type this on my laptop while offline. Not that it matters. I could be chiseling this on the back of a sea turtle for all you know.

On a sidenote, I have recorded 6 songs since buying the Fostex 8 track. I also purchased an Alesis Quadraverb to run my vocals through, which has greatly increased the quality of the vocals on the recordings. I have also fallen in love with the Dunlop Fuzzface pedal, and have purchased one off of Ebay. Now all I need to do is buy a mixer and a PA and I'll be set. And some new microphones. And more cables. But that should be it. Damn, I need a less expensive hobby.

2003-01-17: Blah
Shiite what a week. I knew that it was going to be a bad week. Last week at work I finished completely rewriting the software that runs the company. This week is beta week. For those of you not in the computer biz, that translates to "This week is hell week". I knew it was going to be rough. But, just to add to the pile Carmen decided to call me up and break up with me again on Sunday night. (Note: three days after returning from a month long trip to Taiwan for the holidays.)

Monday I got a call and was told that I have to rewrite the accounts receivable system for my POS by the end of the month. This, and the Beta needs to be rolled out. And the new CAT system needs to be live. And I have to write an article on my software. And I have to set up a website and email accounts for 3 companies we work with. And I have to block the Yahoo and AOL IM ports at work.

Tuesday my ex-girlfriend from three years ago, Jennifer Gomez, called me up to tell me that she slammed into a telephone pole with her car. Correction, with our car. I never got my damn name off of it. She spent the night in jail for DUI and I spent the night sweating and wondering if somehow I am going to get bitten in the ass since my name is on the car.

Wednesday was stressful at work, but I went out to the DBA that night. I saw an old friend from college named Errol. I also played pool and video games with a very attractive lady whom I met there. This reminded me that not only am I not fat, but I am in fact relatively swoll and good looking. That actually goes a long way.

Yesterday Carmen called me up and told me some insane story about how she was being stalked by one of the many male asian "friends" she always seems to be hanging out with when she's not around me. She said that she didn't want to trouble me with her problems and this is why she broke up with me. I promptly screamed at her and told her that she's not only insane, but lies like a fiend.

So this brings us to today. It's Beer O' Clock on Friday, and I'm buying.

2003-01-01: Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!

I woke up this morning with no idea where I was. It turns out I had been sleeping in the spare bedroom at Pete and Christine's house.

After the ceiling stopped spinning for a moment I got up and put on my blazer that I was wearing the night before. "What is this white stuff all over it?" I wondered.

This picture reminded me. This isn't snow. This is powdered sugar from a bag full of beignets. This is as close to snow as you're going to get in New Orleans.

The venue of choice for the New Year was the Matador. It wasn't very New Years-Y, but it was a helluva lot of fun.

2003-01-01: Happy New Year!
Here's a shot from Le Pavillion. I enjoyed much Champan-nye. (I picture Christopher Walken whenever I hear that word). These are technically Christmas decorations, but they are festive and spread good cheer, so Happy New Year! My resolutions:

1) Lose at least 20 more pounds
2) Get much better at dancing

That's it. I would say be super money but I've already accomplished that this year, so it wouldn't be much of a resolution. (Hoo-Hah)

I hope everyone's 2002 is better than their 2001. 2001 was a rough year. Foxnews had a list of events in 2001 and it was quite a roller coaster. One positive thing did come out of it, however. For the first time that I can remember it is completely acceptable to be very patriotic. Socially, the person that loves America now has the upper hand rather than the art school girl who thinks America is the bane of the earth.
