2001-11-17: Dancing Days are Here
I haven't updated much lately because I've been busy with my new job and job-related leisure activities. So far my job rocks socks. And the work environment is pretty cool, they have lots of Christmas parties and after work cocktails. My second day on the job I was invited to join a bunch of people in ballroom dance classes. So far I've had a blast...dancing is hella fun.

All my life I've had an aversion to dancing. I feel like a goon in dance clubs. But this is different...there are actually MOVES that you learn and practice. I finally realize why I've always hated club dancing. It's because it's not dancing in the first place. It's rubbing up against chicks' asses to music.

I'm just going to have to hang out in places where...how to phrase this gently...there's no bling blingin'. or backin' that ass up.

2001-11-01: Enter: The Drunken Squirrel
This squirrel is a character I've been doodling for years. Of late he has come to be my alter ego on paper.

You'll notice that my crappy drawing has become slighly less crappy. This is because I bought a Wacom tablet and it's a lot better than using a mouse. Although Linux picked up the tablet right away, it just treated it as a mouse and didn't recognise the pressure sensitivity. And right now I just don't have the desire to try to compile a new module and screw with my XF86Config file.

Also unfortunately the tablet makes Gimp for Windows act like a spastic monkey in heat, so no dice there. The tablet actually came with Photoshop Lite edition, and that's what I used to draw this comic. It really sticks in my craw to use Photoshop, as anyone that knows me well can attest, but I'm not one to cut off my nose to spite my face. For the time being I'll be drawing in Photoshop.

2001-10-29: Like the Phoenix
In case you didn't know I was laid off from my job last Monday. I have a wonderful poorly drawn comic about it in the Misc Section . Actually, it wasn't just me that was let go, but any and all software development...they're completely getting out of that business and are essentially getting rid of their clients.

I was quite depressed for a couple of days, but on Friday I talked to one of our clients and today they decided to hire me - for more than I'm making now.

So, like the phoenix I've risen out of the flames of downsizing. I'm quite excited about my new job because I've never been an internal IT guy before, I've always worked for software services companies. When you contract like that you're always under a lot of pressure to finish software within the budget of the contact regardless of how that affects quality. From what I've seen of internal guys, they have a lot more freedom to do things the right way. Hopefully that will be the case where I'm going.

2001-10-22: Just waiting for the pain
So here I am waiting for my employer to shaft me. We've been knowing it's coming for days, and they had the poor taste of postponing the meeting to tell us until Monday (today) so it would ruin our weekends. Not only that, but when I got in they told me we're not meeting until 4:30. No doubt to shield the company from crazy ass freakouts all day. Well, if there's one thing I can't stand it's waiting around for the shaft.

2001-10-17: Dogs on Wheels
images.google.com has proven to be an infinite source of addiction and amusement for me. I can just spend hours wading through pictures that lead me to the dark underbelly of the world.

But Eddie's Wheels has got to be the funniest site I've been to in weeks. It's a place where you go to get a wheelchair for your dog. I'm not joking, it's for real. Now, I love my dogs, and if they ever got maimed I'd probably be the first in line to spend money on a doggie prosthetic...but you've got to admit that seeing a dog on wheels is hella funny.
